Mrs. Marlene Brownlee Johnson peacefully passed away at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center on January 13, 2024.
Funeral services are planned for 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 17, at Lee Street Methodist Church. Dr. Dennis Stalvey will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Early County, GA on January 6, 1934 to Claude Brownlee and Donnie Allen Brownlee. During Mrs. Johnson's early childhood, her family moved to the Americus are where she completed her education and remained.
Mrs. Johnson began working with Southern Bell in 1956 as a telephone operator and when the Americus office eliminated operator services, she accepted a position in Albany as an assignment clerk. She continued her career with Southern Bell until her retirement in 1988. After retiring, she remained in the Americus area and enjoyed visiting with family, traveling, and crafting. Her enjoyment was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and making quilts.
Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her parents; her husband William A. Johnson; her brother David C. Brownlee; and sisters: Ethel A. Nobles and Elizabeth Clenney.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children: Ronald A. Johnson (Rebecca) of Navarre, FL and Connie Jarvis (Scott) of Rockmart, GA; grandchildren:Cynthia Tompkins (John) of Colorado Springs, CO, William A. Johnson (Mitchelle) of Antelope, CA, Christina Johnson of Denver, CO, and Daniel R. Jarvis of Rockmart; great-grandchildren: Oliver and Vivian Tompkins; brother Kenneth Brownlee of Americus; brother-in-law George Johnson of Americus; and sisters-in-law Mary Johnson of Andersonville and Lucile Johnson of Americus; and several nieces and nephews.
