Marlene Leona Reynolds, age 88, of Elizabeth, Colorado passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023.
She was born Marlene Leona Tysl on November 12th 1934 in Chicago Illinois. She was raised by her mother Leona Tysl and father George Tysl she had a younger brother named George. She grew up in a lovely large three story home in Chicago along with her grandparents.
Marlene attended Gage High School, after graduation she attended two years of teaching college. She met Gil her husband on a blind date in November 1954 and he asked her to marry him on February 13th 1955. They married August 13th 1955 at Tabor Lutheran Church.
Shortly thereafter Gil was drafted into the army and reported for duty immediately following the honeymoon. When she was pregnant she moved to Fort Knox Kentucky to be with Gil and gave birth to their first son Dennis September 1956. When Dennis was nine days old, she moved back to Chicago to live with her parents until Gil finished serving his country for the next two years. God blessed them with three more children during this time, Debbie was born October 1958, Don September 1960, Dean March 1963.
She was a stay at home mom until all her children were in school. Marlene went back to work in the school district as an Assistant Librarian and worked while her children were at school, so she could be home with them. She was the president of the Parent Teacher Association for Burbank Elementary.
Marlene was always active in her churches. Marlene and Gil moved to Elizabeth, Colorado where she continued her involvement at Elizabeth Presbyterian Church. During her time at EPC she was an assistant secretary to Pastor Bruce Spear and actively worked with the food bank. Marlene was active with the prayer chain and both her and Gil were deacons of the church.
Her husband Gil passed July of 2014 she remained in there home until 2015 where she then moved in with her son Don, wife Dana, and their two children Emily and Megan, after two years living with Don, it was determined because of her eyesight failing it was in her best interest to move in with her son Dean and wife Karen where she remained for two years. In 2019 she had additional needs so she decided to move into an assisted living community. In February of 2023 she moved back home with her son Dean and wife Karen until her passing.
Her family remembered her for her patience raising her four children, she was a great cook and maintained her home beautifully. Her grandchildren enjoyed learning to cook and bake with her, and she always offered prayer and advice when needed.
Marlene was a women of strong faith and taught her children and grandchildren about the love of god and living in faith.
She was surrounded by her family when God called her upward to receive his eternal reward on March 17th 2023. She is survived by her son Dennis and wife Joni, her daughter Debbie, her son Donald and wife Dana, her son Dean and wife Karen, and her four Grandchildren Brooke, Haley, Emily, and Megan.
Her favorite bible verse is Philippians 4:6-7.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Cancer Society in Honor of her son Don who is currently battling Cancer.
