“Strength and honor are her clothing … she shall rejoice in time to come. Her children rise up and call her blessed …” (Proverbs 31)

Mrs. Marlene Jefferson Russell, 91, died Thursday, March 12, 2026 at her home. Mrs. Russell was a native of Carroll County, Virginia where she was born September 2, 1934 to Conley Otto and Opal Barker Jefferson. Family and church were central to her life. It was often said “She is the sweetest person I have ever known.” She loved the Lord and was a member of Abundant Grace Tabernacle in Kernersville. Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her parents and, in 2025, by her beloved husband, Jack L. Russell. Surviving are two children, Trina Gaye Russell Rothrock (husband, Dwayne) and Derrick Edwin Russell (wife, Shirley); grandchildren, Josh Gerry (wife, Lori), Bethany Pritchett (husband, Alan) and Josh Hamilton (wife, Jackie); great-grandchildren, Haylee and Colbie Gerry, Ada Pritchett, Anna and Broden Hamilton; sisters Emma Jean Williams and Angeline Taylor, brother Mike Jefferson and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 6:00 PM Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. Mrs. Russell’s brother, Pastor Mike Jefferson, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. Mrs. Russell’s brother-in-law, Pastor Bob Williams, will officiate. The family wishes to offer heartfelt thanks to those who have cared for Mrs. Russell with kindness and compassion over the last year.
