Marlin Hemker Obituary
January 29, 1939 - September 4, 2025
Marlin F. (Marley) Hemker, 86, of Hudson, Wisconsin, (formerly of Union Grove) lost his battle with Alzheimer's Disease on Thursday, September 4th, at Cambridge Senior Living in Hudson, Wisconsin.
Born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, on January 29, 1939, he was the son of Theodore and Caroline (née Niesen) Hemker. His early life was spent in St. Joseph Ridge, Wisconsin, where he attended West Salem High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962 on the USS Wiltsie (DD716). On September 22, 1962, he was united in marriage to Joyce Schafer in Bangor, Wisconsin, and they moved to Union Grove in 1965.
Marlin served as a volunteer EMT and Firefighter with the Union Grove-Yorkville Fire Department from 1975 through 1987 and served as the department's Treasurer for several years. While living in Union Grove, he worked at American Motors and Grove Gear. After moving to Hudson in 1987 he worked for Northwest Airlines until his retirement in 2005. Marlin was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Prescott, Wisconsin. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family over the years.
Marlin is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Tim Hemker and Debbie (Mark) Staven; granddaughters, Jorey Staven and Jacey (Matthew) Nelson; siblings, Joanne Hemker, Jeanette (Paul) Boehlke and Kenneth (Debbie) Hemker; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Patricia) Schafer; sister-in-law, Darlene Schafer; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harley Hemker; sister-in-law, Marion Buol; and brothers-in-law, LaVerne Schafer and Glenn Buol.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Cambridge Senior Living and Moments Hospice in Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to the Union Grove-Yorkville Fire Department or the Alzheimer's Association.
Visitation will be held at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Memorial service will begin at 12:30 p.m. with burial at Union Grove Cemetery to immediately follow.
