MARSHA Grahame Obituary

Grahame MARSHA Lynn November 4, 1943 - May 19, 2025 Lynn Grahame was born Marsha Lynn Williams in Dayton, Ohio, on November 4, 1943 and passed away following a brief illness on May 19, 2025, surrounded by family. She is survived by her three children, Michael Harai of Snohomish, WA, Lani Harai, and Daniel Harai, both of Philadelphia, her foster children Huy Nguyen and Victor Mountain, by her granddaughter, Janet Fletcher, of Philadelphia; by her sister, Carol Sabatino of Buffalo, NY; and by an extensive extended and foster family including Hien Nguyen, Oahn Nguyen and many others from Ireland to Vietnam. She was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Thomas Grahame, as well as by her first husband, Norman Harai. Lynn is much loved and respected and is already greatly missed by her friends and family. Lynn was raised in Dayton, the oldest of two children born to Florence and Warren Williams. She attended Beaver Creek High School from which she graduated in 1961, married in 1963, and moved to Pittsburgh in 1968, settling initially in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. Lynn attended the University of Pittsburgh, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work in 1977 and her Master's in Social Work in 1979. She began her career at Planned Parenthood and remained committed to its mission throughout her life. In December of 1980, Lynn moved to Philadelphia, where she married Thomas Grahame in March of 1981. They remained in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia throughout both of their lives. Lynn's commitment to others and to her community was clear both in her devotion to her family and foster family, and in her career as a social worker. She worked at Temple from 1981 to 1983, and at Moss Rehab Center from 1983 to her retirement, where she advocated tirelessly on behalf of her clients. Lynn championed the idea that a patient's successful rehabilitation and future outlook was deeply tied to their support network of friends and family. Her impact on the lives of her clients, colleagues, family and friends cannot be overstated. She folded them all into her extended family. Her home in Mt. Airy was a center of the community and both a gathering place for celebrations and a sanctuary for many. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Lynn's honor to Planned Parenthood. Her family will hold a Memorial Service and Celebration of her Life at the home she shared with Tom in Philadelphia, with her final resting place in Ireland, alongside her husband. Details are available from family and friends.

Lynn was a kind and generous mentor to me when I started at Moss Rehab in 1998. She was patient with questions and was always moved by the struggle of others. I respected her deep knowledge, especially about patients with brain injuries.
