Marshall Ray Baker, our beloved family member, was born on March 12, 1954, to Willis Baker, Sr. and Carrie Mae (West) Baker in Crockett, Texas, located in Houston County.  He attended Hopewell Elementary School and Douglas High School begore graduating from Centerville High School.  From an early age, Marshall was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church. After moving to Houston, he placed his membership with the South Union Church of Christ, and later with Westbury Church of Christ. 

Marshall enjoyed hunting, furniture crafting, and restoration.  He was a family man who loved his family.  He also loved and shared a special relationship with his brother and sisters-in-law.  Marshall's connection to his Baker and West heritage family shaped his identity and life choices.

After graduating from high school, Marshall attended Henderson Junior College in Athens, Texas, which is now known as Trinity Valley Community College.  After completing his college education, he embarked on a career in the Industrial Services sector, relocating to Fort Worth, Texas, to further pursue his professional aspirations.  Later, he moved to Houston, Texas where he worked for Brown and Root for fifteen years.  After leaving Brown and Root, he worked for Apache, Halliburton, and Zachry Industrial in roses as a foreman and maintenance services.  After working at Zachry for eighteen, plus years, he retired in 2019.  From his previous marriage, tow children were born to the union.  On September 16, 1995, he married Doris (Johnson) Baker, with whom he remained married until his death.

Marshall was preceded in death by his mother and father; sister, Margie Nell; brother, Willis Baker, Jr.; nephew, William Antron McCullough; and a step-son, James Kennedy Ross.  Marshall leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Doris Ann Baker; daughter, Ashanti Riggs (Geno); son, Jarrett Baker (Ashley); step-daughter, Melisa Ross; sister, Marilyn McCullough (William); brother, Earl Henry Baker (Amberee); grandchildren, Eugene Riggs, III, Euston Riggs, Asha Riggs, Tyler Baker, Jarrett R. Baker, II, Isabella Baker (due Jan. 2026), Darrien Jevon Grantham, and Jayden Zahir Grantham; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends who will forever cherish Marshall's memory.

A homegoing service honoring Marshall's life was held 11 A.M., Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.  Rev. Ezra Johnson will officiate the service.  Interment followed in Hopewell Cemetery in rural northeastern Leon County.
