IRON MOUNTAIN - Marshall H. Johnson, 87, of 900 E. "F" St., Iron Mountain, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born July 15, 1921, in Iron Mountain, son of the late John and Ebba (Swanson) Johnson. Marshall graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. On Sept. 6, 1952, he married Rose Marie Fedde at the First Covenant Church. Marshall was an active member of the First Covenant Church and served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Tuesday morning prayer breakfast group. Marshall worked at the VA Medical Center for 35 years. He was an avid Packer fan and also enjoyed baseball, gardening, and fishing. In his younger years, he played in the Swede-Cousin Jack yearly baseball tournament. He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie; five children, Rebecca (Stuart) Nelson of Eden Prairie, Minn., Annette (Robert) Zimmerman of Spread Eagle, Wis., Darin (Susan) Johnson of Norway, Carolyn (Victor) Doyle of Chanhassen, Minn., and Dayna Johnson of Iron Mountain; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Larson and Florence VerHoven; two nieces, several cousins, including a special cousin, Marge Duvall; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Luke) Mattson, Andrew (Katie) Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Kierstin Nelson, Elyse and Alex Johnson, Brad, Josh, and Isaac Doyle. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the First Covenant Church. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Peter Erickson will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Covenant Church in his memory.
