Marshall L. King, a beloved husband, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and friend, passed away on March 25, 2026, in
Merritt Island, Florida, after a long battle with dementia. He was 81 years old.
Born on June 29, 1944, in
Chicago, Illinois, Marshall later became a long time resident of Miami and eventually retired in Merritt Island.
He lived a full and vibrant life shaped by his passions, his sharp wit, and the connections he made with everyone around him. Marshall's humor was dark, sharp, and absolutely unforgettable - the kind that made you laugh even when you knew you probably shouldn't. He was the kind of person who could light up a room with a perfectly timed joke delivered in that dry, understated style that was uniquely his.
Marshall was a master fisherman, equally at home chasing offshore game fish as he was working the flats with patience and precision. Fishing wasn't just a hobby for him; it was a way of life and a source of endless stories, many of which got better with each telling. He was also an accomplished wine collector who took great joy in sharing his carefully curated bottles with friends, turning tastings into memorable gatherings filled with good conversation and even better company.
As an alumnus, he was a proud and passionate supporter of the University of Miami. Marshall was a dedicated member of the Hurricane Club and a loyal backer of Hurricanes athletics. Few things made him happier than watching University of Miami football, and his enthusiasm for the program never wavered through wins and losses alike.
Marshall is survived by his loving wife, Mary A. King (Wagner), of 46 years. Mary stood by his side through a lifetime of adventures, laughter, and love. Their partnership was the anchor of his life, and her devotion to him, especially in his final years, was a testament to the bond they shared.
While Marshall wore his faith lightly, he carried a quiet sense of gratitude and grace that touched those who knew him. May he now rest in the peace he so richly deserves.
A celebration of life will be held at the family home, with a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the University of Miami Hurricane Club in Marshall's honor.
As you remember Marshall, raise a glass, tell a joke, and hold your loved ones a little closer. May his line stay tight and his waters calm - fish on, Marshall.
