Marshall Blake Mitchell

Marshall Blake Mitchell passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on August 27, 2025 after a short battle with cancer.
Blake was born in Cotaco, Alabama on November 5, 1937 to Alphus and Cloise Mitchell. His family moved to Decatur, Alabama where he grew up. As a boy, he worked for his father at Mitchell Feed and Seed and at Mitchell Hatchery.
Blake graduated in 1956 from Decatur High School. He attended Auburn University in 1957; the year Auburn was the National Football Champs. He was a true Auburn fan.
One of his most memorable times was owning his 1957 Chevrolet and racing with his buddies. The second was when he joined the Army in 1960 and served until 1963.
Blake worked for Masonite Corporation in Laurel, Mississippi, South Central Bell, and AT&T in Decatur and Huntsville, Alabama and Lucent Technology in Birmingham, Alabama where he retired in 1991.
His family moved to Cantonment, Florida following his retirement. Blake was a Florida and Alabama Realtor for 30 years. He and Linda owned and operated Grand Strand Realty and Gulf Real Estate Group in Pensacola, Florida.
Blake was a proud Father, loving Husband and Grandfather (Poppy). He loved going to his cabin in the Georgia mountains, watching Auburn Football and Basketball, taking trips to Maine, cooking and watching the Food Channel. His passion project was his beautiful yard with his knockout roses and fruit trees. Blake loved telling stories, helping others and never met a stranger.
He is preceded in death by his father, Alphus Mitchell; his mother, Cloise Taylor Mitchell; brothers, Boris and Bryant Mitchell; and nephew, Lane Mitchell.
Blake leaves behind Linda Dunagin Mitchell, wife of 61 years; his son, Marshall Lyn (Kristen) Mitchell; granddaughters, Ansley and Kathryn Mitchell of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; nephews, Barry Dunagin, Jason (Mindy) Creel, Wayne Dunagin of Laurel, Mississippi, and Bryant T. Mitchell of Harvey Cedars, New Jersey.
The family would like to thank the many health care professionals at Baptist Hospital Pensacola, Deluna Rehabilitation Center and Vitas Hospice for their diligent care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital or Cancer Research.
A private memorial is planned for the family.
