Marshall E Sargent

Greenville - The Reverend Dr. Marshall Earl Sargent, 82, widower of Gloria Ballard Sargent, entered into heaven's glory on Monday, January 11, 2021.

Born in Pendleton, SC, he was the son of the late Rev. Earl and Helen Stone Sargent.

Marshall was a graduate of Palmetto High School, Anderson University, Erskine College, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and he received his doctorate from Erskine Theological Seminary. He was very proud of being a veteran of the United States Army. He was the Pastor of Eastlan Baptist Church for 19 years and the Associate Pastor of Berea First Baptist Church for many years. Not being able to fully retire from sharing his love for his Lord and Savior he began to serve several area churches as an interim pastor.

Marshall never met a stranger and was a tremendous encourager. He had a comforting way about him that put a person immediately at ease. His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was his very foundation on which he based his whole life upon. In true Marshall fashion he left all those who would mourn his passing with his final message of comfort: "All of us need to cry. There is, most definitely a time to weep, but there is also a time to rejoice. There is a time to mourn, but there is also a time to dance. There is a time to give hope a chance to outrun our grief. There is a time to come to terms with the things we cannot change, and stumble forward in the directions of life and hope."

He is survived by son, Matt Sargent and daughter-in-law, Meleah Sargent; niece, Jackie Johnson and her husband, Mike Johnson of North Augusta, SC; loving girlfirend, Betty Foldes and her family, Eddie Foldes (Michelle); grandchildren, Brandon, Mason, Brianna, Mariah; and great granddaughter, Myla.

In addition to his loving wife he was preceded in death by sisters; Doris Batson and Mary Hawkins.

Although no formal Receiving of Friends will be held, friends may pay their respects on Friday, January 22, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 12 o'clock noon at Berea First Baptist Church. Burial will be in held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family appreciates those attending to follow the CDC guidelines on Social Distancing and wearing a mask. Masks are required in all Thomas McAfee Funeral Home locations and guests are strongly encouraged to wear them.
