Marta (Zapata) Gutierrez, 66, went in peace to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 1, 2024.
Marta was born March 8, 1958, in Beeville, Texas to Tomas and Enriqueta (Leal) Zapata. She married the love of her life, Arturo “Tudy” Gutierrez, on July 19, 1975, in George West, where they resided for the most part of their life. They spent the last couple of years in Victoria to be close to their daughter, Mandy, and family. As a faithful parishioner of St. George Catholic Church, Marta was also a beloved member of the George West community. She cherished her family and was a loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her father, Tomas Zapata; her beloved husband, Arturo Gutierrez who passed April 22, 2022; and a sister, Adelita Yunis.
Marta is survived by her mother, Enriqueta Zapata; daughter, Amanda (Roland) Gaytan of Victoria; grandchildren, Lauren and Jesse Gaytan; four brothers, Mario (Karen) Zapata of Dallas, Thomas (Debbie) Zapata of Beeville and Eddie (Brenda) Zapata and Joe (Mary) Zapata, both of George West; a sister, Gloria (Johnny) Molina of Beeville; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, August 9, at St. George Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 6 o’clock that evening.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 10, at St. George Catholic Church with Father Romeo Salinas officiating. Burial will follow at the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bo East, Brandon Gutierrez, Joe Zapata Jr., Dennis Quebodeaux, Warren Reyna, Bobby Kinchloe and Christopher Zapata.
