Martha Combs Obituary

Published by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - North on Mar. 3, 2018.
Martha S. Combs of Austin, Texas, born April 28, 1924 in Bryan, Texas, passed away March 3, 2018. She spent her childhood in Smiley, Texas and after graduating from Smiley High School in 1941, enrolled in the University of Texas in Austin, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Martha was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Westwood Country Club, Headliners Club and numerous honorary and service organizations. Although her accomplishments throughout the years were many, she prefers to be remembered as a very simple person whose love for her family far exceeded all else. She had a large circle of friends because she always looked for and found the good in everyone she met. Until their retirement, she and her husband Jack were in the land development business in Texas and Colorado. Some of her most cherished memories were the years they spent at their Mountain Creek Ranch near Johnson City, their Cherry Creek Ranch in Southwest Colorado and their Lake Buchanan home. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Reed Combs, her grandson, David Christopher Crow, her mother and stepfather, Alline Gidley Bell and Thomas Lloyd Bell, her sister and brother-in-law, Robaline and Zilmon Sloan, brother-in-law, Rev. Eugene Snow and Emily Sloan. She is survived by her two daughters, Terri and husband Don Crow of Liberty Hill, and Wendy and husband Lynn Howard of Round Rock; her stepson Kelly Combs and wife Jane of Georgia; her grandchildren: Blake and Justin Howard, Chris Crow and wife Becca, Kim Moore and husband Russell, Donny Crow and wife Summer, Marci Chen and her step-grandchildren Laura and Brian Combs; her great grandchildren Emma Grace Howard, Carter Crow, Cade and Cole Moore, Griffin, Lyndon and Breck Crow, Dylan Kemble and wife Anna and Meredith Kemble; her sister Florence Ann Snow of Florida; her brother and sister-in-law Lloyd J. and Gayle Bell of Smiley; her nephews Dr. Lee Sloan and Rob Sloan, nieces Natalie Robbins, Lisa Paterra, Linda Murray and nephew Buddy Bell J., their families and a host of wonderful friends. During the past several years of her life she was blessed with the deep friendship of her lifelong friend, Dr. M. K. Patterson, Sr. of Lampasas who also preceded her in death. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Riva Ridge Assisted Living in Leander for their loving care given to our Mom during her stay there. We think of all of you as a part of our extended family. Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Blake Howard, Justin Howard, Chris Crow, her grandson-in-law Russell Moore, her great grandsons Cade and Cole Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandson Carter Crow, nephews Dr. Lee Sloan and Rob Sloan, her great nephews Nathan and Eric Sloan. There will be a graveside service for Martha at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive. Family and friends are invited to attend. Anyone wishing to say goodbye before the service are welcome to come by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. between 9:00 am and 10:00 am March 7th In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.

I helped Martha with her computer for years. She was one of my treasured sweet ladies... a delight to visit. She had the distinction of having the only actual typewriter left among my many clients and friends, and always used it to write my check! but i understand the person supplying her with used reinked ribbons was running out of them. She had a great sense of humor and was always straight forward and direct while being the soul of kindness. I have missed her..

Dear Terri, Don, and family:
Moms are special people, especially ones like yours. The love your mom had for so many is reflected in you and your lives. From all that I knew about her, I could tell she was an amazing lady who will be watching over you until you meet again. Please accept my condolences. I'll be thinking of you and the family in the coming days and praying that God blesses you with peace and understanding to help heal your broken hearts.
