Martha Gay Deel

Martha Gay Raines Deel, 62 years of age, of Vansant, VA, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, at her home. Born June 10, 1963, in Grundy, VA, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Ollie May Deel Raines.

Martha was of the Primitive Baptist faith and a true tomboy at heart. She loved basketball and was honorary #15 for the Haysi Tigers and enjoyed riding dirt bikes. She was always at her husband's side, whether it be watching him drag race or helping him work on coal trucks until her sons came along. Martha was the sweetest, kindest lady you would ever meet and seen the best in everybody. She loved her family unconditionally, especially her three grandsons and spent as much time with them as possible. Martha was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many who was truly loved and will be missed dearly.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Roger Hibbert Deel; brothers Larry Warren Raines and Ronnie Dee Raines; and sisters Linda Sharon Edwards and Sylvia Raines.

Survivors include daughter Brittany Lagay Deel and husband Brandon of Bee, VA; sons Jason Roger Hibbert Deel of Vansant, VA, Brian Matthew Deel and wife Katie of Vansant, VA; sisters Shirley Owens and husband Gary of Sandlick, VA, Rita Wilson and husband Gary of Council, VA; brothers Donnie Raines and wife Trish of Sandlick, VA; sisters-in-law Carol Ramey and husband Dennis of Grundy, VA, Wanda Raines of Sandlick, VA, Arlene Deel and husband Jerry of Haysi, VA, Carolyn Raines of Clintwood, VA; and brother-in-law Danny Deel of Haysi, VA.

She is also survived by grandchildren Parker Matthew Deel, Brantley Jase Deel, Axel Floyd Deel; several nieces and nephews; and special lifelong best friend Donna Sulyrette.

Funeral services for Martha Gay Raines Deel will be held Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 12:00 noon, at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home, Grundy, VA, with Reverend Jerry Ward officiating. Burial will follow.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Raines, Logan Raines, Devan Ramey, Jessie Bowman, Greg Bowman, and Josh Raines.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Wayne Owens, Joey Ramey, Jerry Owens, Parker and Brantley Deel, and Dennis Ramey.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 11 after 6:00 p.m.
