Martha Hadley Obituary

Visit the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.

Martha Jeanette Lindley Hadley, at the age of 90, went to her heavenly home on March 27th after a brief illness. Mrs. Jeanette was born to Allie Lindley and Mary Elizabeth Pugh Lindley on December 22, 1935 in Siler City North Carolina. She worked for Kellwood Hosiery for over 25 years, and retired to care for her growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Once Wal-mart opened in Siler City she returned to the workforce, acting as a greeter for 19 more years. Though she was Mawmaw to many, she was known around Siler City as Mrs. Wal-mart for her constant presence and welcoming spirit. Jeanette was a lifelong member of South Fork Friends Church and participated in many ways including the Friends Fellowship class, the Circle of Hope, teaching the Senior Youth Sunday School Class, serving as an elder, singing in the choir, and serving on many committees, most recently the Home Contact Committee.

Mrs. Jeanette was a caregiver through and through, anyone who came to her home had a spot at her table, and what a table it was. Known for strawberry shortcake, persimmon pudding, chicken pies, and jams and jellies, food was the most obvious but far from the only way she showed her care for everyone she encountered. She also loved to quilt, sew, craft, and spoil Friskie, her beloved rescue cat. Though her presence will be missed, her spirit will live on in the way those who knew her care for others in the way that she did.

Mrs. Jeanette is survived by her children: her daughter Wanda Stafford (Dan) of Snow Camp, sons James Hadley (Rita) of Snow Camp, and Gary Hadley (Teresa) of Graham; her grandchildren: Brian Stafford (Shannon), Amy Hilfiker (Jonathan), Justin Hadley (Nichole), Lauren Hadley (Tim), Stacy Qualls (Bradley), Ben Hadley (Melissa), and Brittany Hadley Parker; her great-grandchildren: Graham, Wyatt, Kenzie, Ella, Bryce, Colt, Sadie, Aubrey, Elijah, Layla, and Braxton; her Brother-in-Law Harry Wilson; her special friend Floyd McBane; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jeanette was pre-deceased by her husband Herman Hadley.
