Martha Cragg Hodges, 76, passed away Tuesday November 25, 2025, at home after an extended illness.

Martha is best known as proprietor of Martha's Closet and as co-owner of Special Somebodies in Hickory, N.C., specializing in quality women's clothing for over 25 years. She was also active in the community serving for years on the board for United Way and in various capacities in the American Women's Business Association (ABWA). She was also previously employed at the Ocean Forest Hotel and as Manager of Regency Towers Condominium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Martha was born at Maxton AFB, N.C., on May 30, 1949, and grew up in Laurel Hill, N.C. She graduated from the last class of Laurel Hill High School in 1967 before it was shut down due to consolidation of Scotland County schools. She was Homecoming Queen that year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Howard Cragg and Hannah Snead Cragg of Laurel Hill; and an older brother, Robert Cragg Jr. who passed away in childbirth.

Survivors include her husband, John Hodges and daughter, Gina Hodges of the home, son, Robert "Buddy" Hodges and his wife Dawn Throneburg of Conway, S.C.; grandson, Ethan Hice of Hudson, N.C.; brother, Bradley Cragg of Cumming, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Sherry Hodges of Jamestown, N.C., and Joann Hodges of Conway, S.C.

Funeral Service will be held at 4 pm Wednesday December 3, 2025, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory, N.C., with Pastor Dan Duke officiating. The family will receive friends after the funeral service.
