Martha Moore Lund, 79, died peacefully at her home in Lawrenceville, Georgia on November 21, 2025.
Born in October 1946 in Durham, North Carolina, Martha, or “Marti” as her friends and family knew her, was a graduate of Durham High School and went on to receive her license as a Registered Nurse from Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing in Greenville, South Carolina.
From 1969 to 1992, Marti lived in Hutchinson, MN with her husband, Roger Lund. There, she worked at Hutchinson Community Hospital and raised two daughters, Tracy and Barbara. She worked in many areas of the Hutchinson hospital, notably as an oncology nurse and patient educator in the Health Education Resource Center. Marti moved back home to Durham in 1992 and began working in cancer care at Duke University Hospital. In 2000, she moved to Easley, South Carolina and returned to Greenville General (now called Greenville Memorial Hospital) where she was a Vascular Access Specialist until her retirement in 2011. Since 2015, Marti resided in assisted living near her daughter Barbara in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Marti was an excellent nurse, and Tracy and Barbara recall that throughout their lives, they often encountered people who worked alongside their mom, or who had been cared for by her. All of them remarked on the expertise, dedication and care that Marti showed in her work.
Another great love of Marti’s life was music and singing. She loved singing in church as a child, and after her retirement from nursing, she participated in various local choral groups.
Marti is survived by her daughter Tracy (Jason) Fortun of Geneva, Illinois; her daughter Barbara (Andrew) Martell of Lawrenceville, Georgia; and her grandchildren Henry, Scout, Sam and Sean. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruth Moore, and by her sister, Malinda Rush.
