Martha J. Mitchell, age 98, peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, while surrounded by her family on the night of February 25, 2026. She passed just weeks before her 99th birthday. Born on March 30, 1927, near Mount Vernon, Kentucky, Martha lived a long, faithful, and grace-filled life centered on family, friendship, and her unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ.
Martha was the beloved matriarch of a large and diverse family. She was the proud mother of Debbie, Linda, Judy, Darlene, and David. She endured the profound heartbreak of losing all of her children except Judy, a sorrow she carried with remarkable strength and deep faith. Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply. She found great joy in taking her grandchildren to church, sharing her love of the Lord with them, and guiding them by example.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Earl Mitchell, who passed away many years ago. Together they built a home grounded in love, faith, and steadfast commitment.
Martha was one of many siblings and survived the loss of each of them: Mary Lou, Ed, Anne, Vernon, and Junior. Though she experienced much loss throughout her life, she remained resilient, prayerful, and anchored in her faith. She held a special and tender love for her mother, Ida May Baker, whom she remembered often and spoke of with deep affection.
Living in Cincinnati, Ohio for most of her life, Martha became a longtime and faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Her faith was not merely something she professed—it was something she lived. She was one of the first women to obtain certification to teach Sunday School and faithfully taught children at Fellowship Baptist Church for more than 30 years. Generations of children were blessed by her gentle guidance, strong biblical foundation, and sincere desire to share the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Among the many meaningful experiences of her life, one she treasured most was visiting the Holy Land with dear friends from Fellowship Baptist Church. Walking where Jesus walked deeply touched her heart and strengthened her faith in a profound way. She often reflected on that journey with gratitude and awe, considering it one of the most unforgettable blessings of her lifetime.
Martha also cherished her lifelong friendship with Faye Baker. The two shared many joyful summer vacations to Miami over the years, creating memories filled with laughter, warmth, and enduring companionship.
Those who knew Martha will remember her as a woman of sarcastic wit, quiet strength, steadfast faith, and unwavering love for her family. She was the foundation of her family—a praying mother, grandmother, and friend whose life reflected Christ’s compassion and grace.
While her earthly presence will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in the promise of her eternal life and the assurance that she is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, children, siblings, and dear friends.
Her life was a testimony to faith, perseverance, and enduring love.
Visitation will be held at Radel Funeral Home, 650, Neeb Rd. on Friday March 6, 2026 from 9:30am until the time of the funeral service at 11am
