Martha Moreno Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home - Oak Lawn on Mar. 21, 2026.
Martha Vela, November 1959 – March 20, 2026.

Martha Vela was born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, and lived 66 beautiful years leaving a mark on every person who had the privilege of knowing her. To talk about Martha is to talk about someone unforgettable. She had a presence that couldn't be ignored-effortlessly elegant, confident, and always herself. Her red lips weren't just a detail; they were part of her signature. Martha didn't follow style… she was the style. She was social, vibrant, and full of life. Martha had a rare gift: she made people feel seen, heard, and important. It didn't matter if she had known you for years or just met you-she had a way of turning any moment into something meaningful. That's why one thing stands above all: everyone has their own personal memory with her. She often described herself as "free and sovereign in life," and she truly lived that way. She enjoyed everything-the conversations, the laughter, the little moments. For Martha, happiness wasn't something distant; it was something you created every day… and she knew exactly how to do that. She was a deeply loving mother. Her children, José (with his partner Dalila) and Karla (with her partner Maricruz Alvarado), were her greatest pride and the heart of her life. As a grandmother, she was loving, spontaneous, and full of joy with Anthony Vela, Angel Vela, and Kevin Favela, who will always carry her memory with them. She was also a beloved sister, the eighth of ten siblings, always present and involved in her family's life. As a friend, she was someone you could count on- for advice, for laughter, and for unforgettable moments. And as an aunt, she was truly one of a kind. More than 30 nieces and nephews were touched by her love, her closeness, and her fearless way of saying "I love you" face to face, never leaving it unsaid. Martha lived life on her own terms-fully, beautifully, and authentically. And that's how she remains… in the memories, in the laughter, and in every story she became part of.
