Martha Lee Jones, 86, of Decatur, IL formerly of Gunnison, MS, departed this life on Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 7:44 PM in Decatur Memorial Hospital with her loved ones by her side. Martha was born on July 7, 1924 in Gunnison, MS the daughter of Mr. Angelo and Lucindi (Laster) Powell. She married Sam Jones in 1951. Martha was a school bus driver in Gunnison, MS. She relocated to Decatur, IL in 1986. Martha Joined Life Changers Church, not only as a member but she was also a Mother of the church until her health failed. Mrs. Martha enjoyed life to the fullest. She leaves to cherish her special memories, seven daughters: Johnnie Lofton, Ethel Powell, Mamie Jones, Martha Ann (Kenneth) Walls, Emma (Terry) Starbody, Ida (Woodrow) Bond all of Decatur, IL; Carrie (Raymond) Leaks of Bloomington, IL; two sons, Sam McCoy of Pascagoula, MS; and V.L. (Dorothy) Powell of Detroit, MI; one sister, Lula Brown of Rosedale, MS; one sister-in-law, Lillie Powell of Peoria, IL; 29 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and a very special niece, Verlena Peck of Decatur, IL. Preceding her in death are her husband, two children, three sisters, and three brothers. The family would like to give special thanks to the second floor of Aspen Ridge Care Center and Decatur Memorial IMC (West) for all their support. Homegoing Celebration will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in Life Changers Church, 1305 E. Prairie Ave., Decatur with Bishop G.E. Livingston officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service in the church. Final resting place will be in Macon County Memorial Park in Harristown, IL. The family of Martha Lee Jones has entrusted the care of their loved one to Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2801 N. Monroe Street, Decatur, IL.
