Martha "Marty" Reider

Martha Reider, aged 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9th, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert Reider; her older sisters Virginia and Maureen, her younger sister Kay and her youngest brother Timmy. She is survived by her two sons and their families - Matthew and wife Lily and son Stephen; Nicholas and wife Lisa with son William and daughter Megan. She is also survived by 4 younger brothers & 5 sisters, innumerable nieces, nephews, and their children. Born in DC in 1941, Martha spent many years helping with her 11 younger siblings. She attended Western Maryland College, and worked at NASA Goddard. In 1964, Marty married Robert "Red" Reider, and joined him overseas in Frankfurt. The couple returned home in 1968, bought a home and adopted two boys to start a family. Marty spent much of her time at St. Joseph's Parish in Sykesville volunteering with Sodality and other church groups. After her husband passed away in late 2020, Marty continued to live in their Sykesville condo, keeping tabs with family over the phone and venturing out with grandchildren and family. Marty was always the social one, and had a warm smile and ready laugh for all. She will be missed - especially by her two sons, their wives and children for her influence in the most important parts of their lives. The family will receive family and friends at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel (6416 Sykesville Rd), Sykesville, MD on Sunday, January 18th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 20th at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (915 Liberty Road), Eldersburg, MD In lieu of flowers or gifts, contributions can be made in Marty's honor to her parish of over fifty years, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sykesville, MD.
