Martha Smithson Obituary
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Bro. David Mackens will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM and again on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
Marie was born October 13, 1941, in Montgomery County to the late William Jackson and Elsie Scebra Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband Oma Jennings (Jack) Smithson and her brother Eugene Jackson. She is survived by three children: Teresa (Joel) Baggett, Danny (Lin) Smithson, and Eric (Monaca) Smithson; seven grandchildren; Josh Baggett, Daniel (Allison) Baggett, Samuel (Caroline) Smithson, Cydnee Elliott, Baylee (Cody) Sorenson; Carlee & Shaylia Laskey; and two great grandchildren Nora Baggett and Lyla Baggett; sisters Helen (Wayne) Hall; Linda (Rick) Boyte, brother Mike Jackson, and sister-in-law Virginia Jackson.
Mrs. Smithson married the love of her life Jack on August 8, 1957. She was devoted to her family and her flowers. She retired from Jostens after over 20 years of service and spent her time making her yard the envy of all. Memaw also found her greatest joy in playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was common to find her in the floor or on the ground playing whatever the grands wanted to play. Mrs. Smithson attended Lone Oak Baptist Church before her illness.
The family would like to thank Nathan Russell NP, Asera Care, and all of Mrs. Smithson's care providers.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Lone Oak Baptist Church "The Purpose Driven Sunday School Fund" that will be used to provide Christmas to underprivileged children in the area. Contributions can be mailed to 3685 Hwy 48, Cunningham, TN 37052, P.O. Box 200.
Josh Baggett, Daniel Baggett, Sam Smithson, Chuck Smithson, Don Smithson, Cody Jackson, and Jeremy Jackson will serve as Pallbearers.
