Laurier, Washington / Dodgeville – Martin Clifford Alvstad, age 75, of Laurier, WA, formerly of Dodgeville, died on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at his home.
Martin was born on September 16, 1949, in Dodgeville Wisconsin. Marty grew up on a dairy farm. One story that the family has always talked about was the day that Marty fell out of the hay loft as a toddler incurring a terrible skull fracture. He would not have survived the fall if he had not landed on one of the pigs in the barn. Grandpa Alvstad let that pig die of old age.
Marty enlisted in the Air Force in January 1973. He was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force in 1974. He served as an F4 Weapons Systems Officer, Electronic Warfare Officer, Instructor and Examiner. Marty won many awards and decorations throughout his military career, including his National Defense Service Medal, with one bronze star.
Marty spent twenty years in the Air Force, after retirement, he went back to school to get his teaching certification. He taught for two years in Kingman, Arizona, then he relocated to Washington to teach for ten years.
Marty loved his dog Boomer and his cats, Packer, Duke, and Franny. He was an exceptional carpenter and craftsman and built everything to perfection from a toy box for his girls when they were little to the work of art homestead he built on the Kettle River. He enjoyed the outdoors, cutting wood, driving his tractor, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford Alvstad and Frances (Crook) Alvstad and his brother Frank Alvstad.
Marty is survived by his daughters Aimee C. Alvstad and Heather D. Alvstad; his granddaughters Peyton Fandrey, Riley Fandrey and Kamryn Fandrey: his sisters Lynn Alvstad (John) Legler, Karen Alvstad (Terry) Sterzik; his niece and nephews Christopher Sterzik, Jonathan Sterzik, Timothy Sterzik, Jeremy Sterzik, David Legler, Stephen Legler and Karen Lorden; and longtime companion Rondi Fuller.
