Martin Joseph Brushwood "Joe" 77, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 7, 1948 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Cecil and Bernice Brushwood. He graduated from La Salle Christian Brothers High School, Glencoe, MO, then joined the United States Navy. He retired from the Navy after 25 years of service as a Chief. Joe had a great love of history, and enjoyed participating in Rendezvous mountain men reenactments, he enjoyed building black powder rifles, playing the Dulcimer, hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. He was a Catholic. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carol Ann Brushwood, brothers: Henry, Tommy, and Billy Brushwood, and sister-in-law, Martha Brushwood. Survivors include: wife, Catherine Brushwood of the home, 5 children: Tom (Jenniffer) Brushwood of Elsberry, MO, Jannette (J.E.) Neel, St. Joseph, MO, Theresa Brushwood (Joe), William (Natasha) Brushwood, and Elizabeth (Clifford) Lippard all of St. Joseph, MO, siblings include: Margaret (Jim) Mounkes, Steven Brushwood, Fred (Mary) Brushwood, Karen (Bob) Hrabak, John Brushwood, Chris Brushwood, Mary Ann (Rex) Parker, Ann Marie (Vic) LaVar, Julie Tatro, and Kathy Howard, best friend, Bob Hagler, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephew and great nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Fr. Garrett King Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:00 PM on Thursday, with the Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 pm, Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the United States Navy. Online condolence and obituary at www.ruppfuneral.com.
