Martin Xavier Crimmins
Age 73, of Pittsburgh, passed away unexpectedly on September 25, 2022. Martin X. Crimmins (Marty) was born June 26, 1949 in Pittsburgh to the late John Michael and Catherine Lucile (O'Malley) Crimmins. Raised with eight siblings in Squirrel Hill, Marty attended the St. Bede School and Central Catholic High School making many lifelong friends.
Loving literature, Marty went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in English at the John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. While at JCU, he found his passion for the sport of rugby, and continued to be a leader on the field with the Pittsburgh Rugby Club for years to come. While in Cleveland, he worked for a Head Start Program, starting a lifelong dedication to helping children with emotional needs. This experience later led him to become a board member of CASA (Court appointed special advocates for children of Allegheny County) earning the National CASA Association Board Member of the Year in 2007 for his efforts.
Professionally, Marty was a legend in his field. He worked tirelessly and accomplished a long and very successful sales career in mainframe computer data storage systems for Memorex, EMC, and Hitachi Data Systems before retiring in 2020.
Marty was a longtime member of the Pittsburgh Athletic Association (PAA) enjoying sports and camaraderie. Also, a member of The Longue Vue Club for 40 years, Marty served on various committees and boards while enjoying countless times with dear friends playing golf. Marty met his wife Melissa (Magula) at the PAA through mutual friends, marrying in 1989. Together they raised three daughters in Fox Chapel. Marty's desire to provide an amazing life for his family, prioritizing education and his "family first" motto will transcend family generations. Marty traveled the world with his family, but his favorite and one constant place was spending time together on the serene beach of Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
Marty was a lover of history and would walk for hours in Schenley Park listening to audiobooks daily. He often shared these walks with his closest friends following retirement. His simple one-line humorous comments would come when you least expect, and one would just start laughing remembering the jokes hours or days later.
Marty is survived by his wife Melissa, three daughters Meredith, Margaret and Marjorie (Pittsburgh) and his siblings, Patrick (Sydney) Crimmins (Philadelphia), John Michael Jr. (Sandy) Crimmins and Terrence Crimmins (Pittsburgh), Timothy (Jill) Crimmins (Atlanta), Constance Kelly (Ann Arbor), Thomas (Kathleen) Florida. Marty was predeceased by two brothers Sean (Texas) and Kevin (Tennessee). Marty is also survived by his dear friend and mother-in-law, Natalie Magula (Hermitage), two sisters-in-law, Melanie Werner (Florida) and Mary Beth Alvin (Philadelphia) and many nieces and nephews.
