Martin Flahive Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by North Dallas Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Feb. 17, 2026.
Martin Michael Flahive, age 91, entered eternal rest Thursday, February 12, 2026. He

was born February 18, 1934, in Monroe County, Iowa to the late Martin Henry Flahive

and Marcella Grace Kearney Flahive. He attended Albia High School and was the first

family member to graduate from college, earning a bachelor's degree in electrical

engineering from Iowa State University. In addition, he took master's courses at

University of Notre Dame and law courses at Southern Methodist University. He proudly

served in the United States Army.

Marty moved to the Dallas area in 1963 where he met his one true love, Mary Jo Alig.

They married on May 28,1966 and remained by each other's side until he departed this

world. He was not only a dedicated and loving husband, father, Bopbop, great Bopbop

but also a devout and faithful Catholic. He celebrated his Irish heritage and was known

for his outstanding sense of humor. He loved telling jokes. In fact, he would tell the

same jokes, so often, his family started to number them. Marty loved to make people

laugh.

Marty is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jo, two sons, Martin John of Grand

Prairie and Michael George of Richardson, a daughter, Susan Marie Buchanan of

Highland Village, two grandchildren, Allison Marie Arant (Dakota) of Lubbock and Ryan

Matthew Buchanan (Katie) of Jacksonville, NC. In 2024, he was ecstatic to welcome his

two great grand-daughters, Harper Grace Arant and Madilyn Margaret Buchanan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Paul Flahive, two sisters, Teresa

Flahive and Mary Margaret Coyne, and one grandchild, Teresa Marie Buchanan. Marty

is survived by seven sisters, Virgene, Carolyn, Pat, Kathleen, Shirley (Gordon), Sandra,

and Judy (Gary). He is also survived by his brother Jim (Mary Kay) and dozens of

nieces and nephews.

Although we grieve the loss of Marty, our memories will always be with us. Marty had

one goal in life. It was to make it to Heaven. We are certain he accomplished his

mission.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial mass intentions be offered in

Marty's name at any Catholic Church. He was a long-time member of Mary Immaculate

Catholic Church, in Farmers Branch.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at St.

Joseph Village, 1201 E. Sandy Lake Rd, Coppell, Texas 75019.

I was so sad to hear about Uncle Bud's passing. He was always my most special (my godfather) Uncle! I just realized that he must have been no more than 19 or 20 when I was born.
He is certainly in Heaven with the rest of the family. Love, Tim
