Martin Henry Hartman was born in Port Huron, Michigan to Henry and Elizabeth (McIntyre) Hartman on December 15, 1934. Martin grew up in the Port Huron area. He married his soul mate, Janet Caryle Lasslett, on July 16, 1955. Together they shared a life of love, adventure, and common interests for 70 years, until Martin's passing. Martin passed away at his home, on his beloved farm, The Happy H Ranch in Diamond, Missouri, with the love of his life by his side on November 6, 2025.

Martin and Janet were married for two years before he was drafted in the United States Army. He faithfully served his country in Germany and France as a heavy equipment operator. While he had many adventures overseas, he settled back in Michigan where he ran a service station for 13 years. He was often rewarded for his hard work ethic and outstanding performance. Among other prizes, he won a trip to Grand Bahama Island, where he and Janet got to relax. Vacations were seldom an option as they owned and operated a horse and beef cattle farm. Martin loved horses, especially Arabians. He rode, trained, bred, and showed them. He raised Limousine-cross cattle and took great pride in his animals and farm.

Martin and Janet shared a deep love for each other. By the end of their first date, they knew more about each other than most people do when they get married. They enjoyed nothing more than spending time together. Janet followed him overseas when he was drafted. When they went back to Michigan, they built a farm together. When they decided to move to Missouri, they built a farm together again, The Happy H Ranch. When Martin got sick, Janet's dedication was unwavering and they were inseparable.

Martin only attended school through the fifth grade. After joining the service, he decided to try to get his GED. Since he only had a fifth-grade education, he had to be evaluated to know where to start with his studies. At the end of the evaluation, he had passed the GED test. He had a friend that was taking classes, reading books, and studying for a realtor exam. Martin asked him to borrow the three books. He read them and decided to attempt the test himself. Without attending a single class, Martin was able to pass the test on the first try. Martin was always learning and was in the habit of reading the newspaper front to back every day. Martin had a sharp mind and found it easy to learn things others found quite difficult. He may not have received much of a formal education, but Martin was a self-educated man who lived a successful and satisfying life.

Martin is survived by his faithful wife, Janet, beloved daughter, Lisa Wilson, and her husband Stephen of Neosho, Missouri. He also leaves behind his precious grandsons Leif and Jedidiah Larson, and one loving sister Arlene Sadilek.

Martin will be greatly missed by his adoring family and a multitude of friends.
