Marty McCoy

Thomas Martin McCoy, known affectionately as Marty to his friends and family, passed away on November 20, 2025, at the age of 64 in Portsmouth, Ohio. Born on November 18, 1961, in Huntington, West Virginia, Marty was a man of intelligence, friendliness, and generosity, whose warmth radiated to all those around him.

Marty was the beloved son of Martine Williams McCoy of Catlettsburg and the late Thomas Virgil McCoy, Jr. He was the cherished husband of Julia Stiltner McCoy of Portsmouth, and the proud father of Marty Malloy-McCoy (Antonio), Jamie McCoy, Allison McCoy (Danny King), and Candice Ford (Michael). Marty's legacy continues through his sister, Susan Irene Stevens, his grandchildren, Corwin Sexton, Connor Hamby, and Ruby Ford, as well as his stepchildren, Fredrick Stiltner and Latitia Stiltner. His life was a tapestry of deep connections and friendships that extended to a host of relatives and friends.

Marty graduated in 1980 from Ceredo-Kenova High School before pursuing his passion for helping others by obtaining a Respiratory Therapist Degree from California College. He dedicated many years of service as a Respiratory Therapist at Kings Daughters Medical Center, where his skill and compassion touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues.

A man of many interests, Marty was a respected Mason of Western Sun Masonic Lodge #91 in Wheelersburg, Ohio. His love for the outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for hunting, and in his younger days, he raised beagles for rabbit hunting. Marty's love for entertainment was fulfilled through his enjoyment of watching westerns and episodes of S.W.A.T., two of his favorite television past times.

Marty's life was one of active engagement and joyful pursuits. His presence was a source of comfort and joy to those who knew him, and his absence will be deeply felt. His spirit, characterized by his intelligence, friendliness, and generosity, will continue to inspire and guide us.

As we bid farewell to Thomas Martin McCoy, we celebrate the indelible mark he left on our lives. His story does not end here, for it is carried on in the stories we share, the memories we hold dear, and the love that does not fade. Marty's journey on earth has concluded, but his spirit remains an enduring beacon of light for all who loved him.

Funeral services will be held 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at the STEEN FUNERAL HOME 13TH STREET CHAPEL by family friend Les Boggs. Burial will follow services at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, prior to services, beginning at 12:00pm at the funeral home.
