Marvin Dennis Brown ObituaryIt is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marvin Dennis Brown on May 9, 2025. Born on April 30, 1955, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to parents Ernest Mitchell Brown and Mable Ruth Brown (née Roger's) Marvin lived a passion fueled life, filled with love and surrounded by family.
Marvin's early life as a "military brat" taught him the importance of building connections and fostering community. Throughout his life Marvin called many places home including North Carolina, South Dakota, Guam, Nebraska, and Colorado Springs where their family eventually settled. Marvin's earlier career led him to living in both Hawaii and Oklahoma for several years where he made several friends and established a community but ultimately Colorado Springs was his home.
For the majority of his life Marvin was captivated by the sounds of the guitar and dedicated his life to mastering the instrument. In 1992, Marvin co-founded the Cross-Cultural Roots Reggae Band, Be Positive (B+). Their mission has always been to bring joy and positivity to their community through their music and they accomplished that mission for decades. Marvin's passion for music extended beyond his own performance, as he loved and appreciated a variety of musical genres and artists and shared that passion with everyone he conversed with.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Mable Brown and his brothers Kenneth and Gordon. Marvin is survived by his children, Vanessa, Khalill, N'Handi and Mahalia; his grandchildren, Akoya, Amethyst and Hadley; his sister, Valeria; and his niece and nephews, Roger, Larla and Collis.
A memorial service to celebrate Marvin's life will be held on Sunday June 1st from 12pm-3pm at 405 N Tejon Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 at Rasta Pasta. All who knew him are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
