Marvin Lonzo Cain, 96, of North Vernon, passed away at 9:15 a.m. on July 8, 2023, at his residence.
Born November 9, 1926, in Scipio, he was the son of the late Charles Everet and Bessie (Campbell) Cain. He married his first wife, Ruth Perry, on August 19, 1950, in Indianapolis; she preceded him in death on October 20, 2002. He married his second wife, Kathryn Moir Cain, on October 11, 2009; she preceded him in death on February 12, 2019.
Marvin was a 1945 graduate of Scipio High School; he was the last remaining member of his graduating class. He served in the US Air Force. Marvin worked as a lab technician for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus and Walesboro. Marvin was a member of American Legion in Columbus, Scipio United Methodist Church, Senior Resource Center, and the V.F.W. in Franklin. He was also a member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge in Columbus, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, and the Indianapolis Shrine. Marvin enjoyed dancing, music, and painting. He loved woodworking, especially building miniature houses. Marvin was a world traveler and loved sharing stories about his adventures.
He is survived by several cousins, including his caregivers, Barry and Sandy Vance of North Vernon; stepdaughter, Melanie Moir Day of Columbus; nephews, Herbert Cain of Zionsville, Donnie Cain of Plainfield, and Robert Cain of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruth; his second wife, Kathryn; and brothers, Earl, William, and Ralph Cain
A funeral service for Marvin will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Sarah Campbell officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon. Dinner will follow burial at the Scipio United Methodist Church everyone is welcome.
Memorials may be made in honor of Marvin through the funeral home to the Scipio United Methodist Church or the Senior Resource Center.
