Marvin G. Carmichael

Marvin meant so much to me - he hired me on Financial Aid 20 years ago and he was so much fun you work for! I have great memories and laughs when I think about all the good times! He is missed!

So sorry to learn of Marvin's passing. He was a wonderful person who cared about people and gave so much to Clemson University.

Our condolences to you and your family. What a tremendous presence Marvin brought to Clemson. His integrity and loyalty were legendary. We will miss him.

Felicia, my wife, Martha, and I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to you and your family in the loss of Marvin. I knew Marvin his entire life. We both grew up on tobacco farms in the Gaddys Mill community of Dillon County. Our family farms and homes were within 1/2 mile of each other. Our parents were the best of friends and our families went to the same country Methodist church. We both went to Clemson where I preceded him by six years. Marvin was a life-long friend whom I always admired for the type of person he was, dedication to family, and for his many accomplishments at Clemson. Felicia, our prayers continue to go out to you and your family for comfort in the days ahead.

We had been praying daily for Marvin's recovery and were deeply saddened and shocked to learn of his death. Our deepest condolences to all the family and friends. Don't hesitate to call on us anytime. You are welcomed to walk down to see us anytime you need to "get away" or need anything!!

I am so saddened by this news about Marvin G., yet smiling at the fond memories of my friend and colleague in the student financial aid profession. He brightened any room he entered, and his love of Felicia, his children, Clemson U., and the students he served were forever apparent.

Marvin is a legend in the financial aid world! He was an exceptional friend to the SC Student Loan Corporation and will be greatly missed. My condolences to you and your family.

Mr. Carmichael was always very nice to me,I met him in the late 90's when I first came to Clemson University as a Parking Enforcement Officer. I met him while writing tickets at Sikes and Long and he asked me how I was doing. He had the most awesome smile and was always friendly when he saw me. My thoughts and prayer are with his wife and family.

CU has never been the same without Marvin. No matter when I called to ask for advice or send a student or parent to him, his door was ALWAYS open especially in his role as Chief of Staff . He is a man of integrity, dedication, respect, empathy, compassion and a true gentleman. When I first met him in 1992 we both worked for Dr. Reel. I commented that his wife was first class and he looked with that wry smile and said" oh you have met Felicia" and I replied no, but she gets the award for you being the Best Dressed Man on campus. He laughed, and said "Thank You" but I do the majority of my shopping. From then on, I laughingly reminded him of what a great shopper his wife was, and he would just chuckle. We shared stories about Dillon, SC as I had lived there shortly and had friends there and we always agreed the Upstate would always be Home. May God comfort your hearts Felicia, Brooks and Ashlee and all of his family. He will always be missed but Never forgotten!

Marvin and I go way back, so I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. He was deeply dedicated to Clemson University, but he was even more devoted to Felicia and his children. Peace, Marvin.

You will be missed! The Tigers and the University have lost a truly skilled person.

Felicia and family, I was so sorry to read about Marvin's passing. For years he was the snow angel of Bayshore checking that shut-ins had all the needed when a snow storm came. I will always remember his kindness. We will miss the service in that it is my 55th reunion at Wake Forest.

Roy Martin and I are deeply saddened to learn of Marvin's passing. I have fond memories of all the support he provided students who needed financial aid. I never hesitated to send to Marvin a student who needed advice because I knew Marvin's door was always open. And Roy and Marvin always shared their love of old Broncos. We were just saying what an iconic sight that was to see him tooling around in his beloved Bronco. Marvin definitely left his mark and will be missed. I was deeply saddened to learn about Marvin's passing. He was so very kind to me, a transplanted Northerner, no less. We shared professional activities, many a laugh, and much knowledge. I am certain that when he was fitted for his heavenly robe, he insisted it be orange with purple trim. May he rest in peace. A good man has left us.

Felicia, my Marvin was your Marvin's 4-H leader in Dillon in 1963-64. We rented the Carmichael's beach house many times. The two were reacquainted many years later as they both were employed at Clemson University. I have fond memories of those Dillon days. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am just so incredibly sorry for the loss of Marvin; he always treated me like another daughter being close friends with Ashlee, and this news is just shocking. I don't have a lot of childhood memories that don't involve him; he always watched out for us and Ashlee's friends. He was truly amazing and will be missed. One of Clemson's favorite sons, who for decades impacted so many lives in a positive way, has left us with many fond memories and tears of sadness at his passing. Peace be with his family and all who lost this dear friend and/or colleague.

My sincere condolences to Marvin's family and many friends. Marvin was a warm and gracious contact and mentor during my time in the Faculty Senate, and a truly skilled listener. Most remarkable was his great duality: he always seemed to know that the main thing was to keep the main things as the main things, even while he really was all about people and his inclusive concern for people and communities. His calm demeanor was occasionally betrayed by a wry smile...and his love of a good (or bad!) clean joke. My thoughts are with all those touched by Marvin's generosity.

It has been very difficult to get our arms around Marvin's passing. A true gentleman to be aroundhe had many passions especially his wife Felicia. His zeal for life, travel and volunteering at Mountain Findings was inspirational.
Heaven has gained an angle, the family has lost a great husband/father and we have lost a great friend.
It is our hope you find some peace and comfort knowing Marvin has touched the lives of so many.

I am heartbroken. I've know Marvin as a beach neighbor since he was a young boy and then later as a professional colleague in Financial Aid. I saw his leadership abilities, his generosity in many areas, and his strong belief in service to others who need help. My heart goes out to his family.
