On March 1, 1952, Marvin Rufus Close, also known as “M. C.”, was born in Bainbridge, Georgia, to the late Mr. Jobe Close Sr. and Mrs. Bertha Close. He attended the public schools of Decatur County, Georgia. After his secondary education, Marvin became employed with the City of Bainbridge until his retirement. In his retirement, he did what he truly loved, which was fishing, hunting and plumbing. In 1974, he wedded the former Berlinda Lewis.

Marvin departed his earthly life on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a sudden and brief illness. A man of many talents who wasn’t afraid to share them with this world, he will truly be missed by his loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by his four brothers Leroy Close, Charles Close, Donald Close and Eddie George Close and his sister Mary Frances Carter.

Marvin will be greatly missed by his nine children: Terrence Close (Torri), Christopher Close, Rufus Lewis (Shirley), Marchell Williams (Eddie), Victor McKay, Tevin McKay, Fernando Hodges, Lenard Cooper and Iron Close; five stepchildren: Andre Close, Calvin Lewis, Eric Lewis, Stephen Lewis, and Barbara Hudnall; two brothers, Jobe Close Jr. of Detroit, Michigan, and Dennis Close (Lillian) of Bainbridge, Georgia; four sisters: Carolyn Hamilton, Helen Marshall, Theresa Close, all of Bainbridge, and Erika Close of Sante Fe, New Mexico; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and former co-workers.
