Marvin Cormier Obituary

Published by Cremation Society of Connecticut - Windsor on Apr. 9, 2020.
Marvin Cormier, 89, husband of Nessie Cohen, passed away on April 9, 2020 after a brief illness. He was born in New Britain on March 19, 1931, to the late Freda (Stavnezer) and George Cormier and was a long time resident of West Hartford. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean War. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his sons David (Lily) of Newington, CT, Michael (Kimberly) of Melbourne, FL, Robert (Bridget) of Laguna Niguel, CA, his grandchildren Caleb and Avielle of Laguna Niguel, CA and his sister Sydelle Scott in Rancho Mission Viejo, CA. He was predeceased by his brother Jack. Marvin lived his life with honor and integrity and accomplished everything that he set out to and more. He spent his working years in the grocery and video rental business. He was an original Hartford Whalers season ticket holder and a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, enjoying special time sharing sports with his sons. He loved the many trips they took to see the Cardinals play in stadiums around the country. He adored and doted on his dogs, particularly his last poodle, Charlie Brown, and he enjoyed following his UCONN Huskies. We would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at St. Mary Home for the exceptional kindness and care they extended to Marvin and his family in his last days. Marvin was a member of Temple Sinai. Funeral services will be private. For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.cremationct.com

I was so sorry to read about Marv's passing. Please accept my sincerest sympathy. I didn't see Marv often, but always enjoyed seeing him when I did bump into him. He was such a sweetheart.
I hope the support of your family and friends will help alleviate your loss.

I remember the first day I met Marvy. It was snowing giant snowflakes as he stood in the front yard with Barnaby. I immediately felt at home with Marv and Nessie and felt like I had known them all my life. Marvy hugged me and kissed my cheek and said " you're the one for Rob ".....he always told me he was my biggest fan. Pops told me in his last weeks to "look around at my beautiful family and know that everything will be alright." I will think of you every time I see a white poodle. I will miss your hugs and very wise words. I will keep them close to my heart forever. I love you Pops!

Marvin and Nessie have been dear friends for 44 years, sharing sports talk, work stories, and family events, over happy and difficult times. We fondly remember our shared trips to Yellowstone and San Diego. A highlight of one trip was a tour of a coal mine in Colorado. As we prepared to go into the mine, dressed in overalls, boots, headlamps, and one hour's worth of oxygen on a 20 pound belt, our big question concerned what would happen when the hour was up. Marvin turned white as the guide shrugged his shoulders and smiled! But he was a trouper and went ahead with the tour. We always enjoyed his company, even the arguments about which (you name the sport) team was better, and will miss him very much.

Nessie and Family,
I am so sorry to read of Marvin's passing. I remember him well as we often spoke of the food business when he came into the Crown. One would be hard pressed to find a finer gentleman of class and integrity. Marvin was a true mensch, and the definition of genuine. This world would be a better place with more like him!!

I have more memories than I can share, but today I'm feeling blessed that my dad is being remembered so fondly, by so many! Today's memory, for me, is that Marvin Cormier was as genuine as genuine could be, he was charming and had a wonderful smile. Today I choose to celebrate what a wonderful life he lived. I love him dearly, and I will continue to cherish our time together. Love you dad!
