Marv was born in Doniphan Missouri on February 28, 1930.

His parents were farmers. His father began to lose his eye sight and when he could no longer farm,

they decided to pack their few belongings and in 1936, headed west. In a 1931 Model A Ford, along

with his mother's cousin, his 2 sisters Wanda (12) and Lillie (8). Marv was 6 years old at the

time. On their way, they saw many people who were headed to California. They crossed the Dust Bowl

in 1936, passed many small shanty towns and witnessed adults and children who were poor and hungry.

Marv and his family arrived in West Denver, where he was raised, in late fall of 1936.

His family bought a car, and being that his father was blind, a neighbor taught his mother how to

drive. Meanwhile, Marv's cousin's husband, who was also blind, taught Marv's father how to sell

brooms from door to door.

Marv graduated from West High School in 1948 and went to work for Gates Rubber Company in November

of 1949. The Korean War began and Marv enlisted in the United States Navy in June of 1950. He was

assigned to the U.S.S. Hector Arizona, a Destroyer Tender ship. He was sent to Sasebo, Japan in the

late 1950's where he served as a Carpenters Mate for 3 years.

Marv married Gloria Pezold in December 1951. They had 2 children, Bill born in 1952 and Kathleen,

born in 1955. He went back to work for Gates Rubber Company in 1953 and took an early retirement in

1981. His wife passed away in June of1981. He then married Shirley Bellendir in 1984. Marv and

Shirley moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona in 1990 and to Prescott, Arizona in 2000.

In 2005, Marv and Shirley moved back home to Colorado where they have resided in Parker for 20 years.
