Marvin McCall Obituary

Marvin McCall, 57, of Stinnett, Texas, died on March 8, 2026, at his family's home of a heart attack. He was named for Marvin Hawthorne, his father's best friend, who gave his life in service to the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam.

Marvin was not easy to categorize, and he wouldn't have wanted to be. After attending Texas State Technical College to earn his certificate for autobody repair and taking classes at Frank Phillips College, he made it clear that he wasn't terribly interested in careers and mortgages. Instead Marvin stepped, quite deliberately, sideways. He was a man that lived by his own compass, and if that compass was sometimes hard to follow, it was always honest. He was a free spirit in the truest sense - not as a pose like some, but as a true conviction.

Marvin had a lightning quick keen wit and, when the mood struck him, a charm that could carry a room. He loved animals with a depth he rarely extended to people, and at the time of his death shared his home with three kitties and a dog who meant the world to him. His belief in wildlife conservation was not casual, to him it was sacred. He pulled deeply from Native American philosophy, holding that every animal taken in the hunt deserved reverence, and that every part should be used and honored. He deeply believed that Earth and nature are sacred. Later in life he traded hunting to spend long hours in nature with a camera, finding in the wild a stillness that often escaped him. He played guitar mostly for his own pleasure, and occasionally with friends. For a time Marvin worked as a stagehand for the band Ricochet.

Marvin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Curtis & Leola Kimmons, paternal grandparents Sam & Kathleen McCall and his beloved daughter, Kiersten McCall, born March 3, 2005, who lived just thirty-seven days. Her gravestone reads, "Some have entertained angels unawares" - Hebrews 13:2. Marvin never fully recovered from losing his little angel, and those of us who loved him believe he carried that grief every day for the rest of his life.

He is survived by his parents, Tony and Kaye McCall, and his brother, Damon McCall.

A graveside interment will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Stinnett, Texas. In lieu of flowers or food, the family asks that donations be made in Marvin's name to Ronald McDonald House Charities in Amarillo.

Marvin was often misunderstood, and perhaps too seldom told how deeply he was loved. But if love could have kept him alive, he might have been immortal.
