Rev. Marvin R. Purgason, 76, of Hogansville, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025, at his home.
Mr. Purgason was born March 27, 1949, in Franklin, son of the late George Bluford Purgason and Beatrice Haynes Purgason. A veteran of service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, he lived in Hogansville most of his life, retired from Atlanta Wire Works in Jonesboro, and was an ordained Baptist minister. He loved fishing, hunting, and archery and was a champion archer.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mattie Purgason of Hogansville; his children, Annette Barnett, Donald Purgason and Tina Moore-Purgason, all of Hogansville; sister, Sally Kee of LaGrange; brother and sister in-law, George and Joann Purgason of Hogansville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and best friends, Rodney Janney and Donnie Kee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Brown; brothers, Jimmy Purgason, Robby Purgason, and James Purgason.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Jody Mitchell will officiate and interment will be in the Corinth Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 16.
