Marvin Reese Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by S.P. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel - Kenbridge on Dec. 22, 2025.
Marvin Eugene Reese, Sr., 73 years old, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, farmer, teacher, coach, rabbit hunter, relative and friend departed his life on Saturday, December 20, 2025 surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on August 18, 1952 in Lunenburg County to the union of Early Mason Reese and Louise Cooke Reese.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Alan G. Reese. He is survived by his loving wife, Emma(Louise) and his devoted children Kimberly R. Baine(Edward), Marvin E. Reese, Jr.(Iyana), Kristy R. Ames(Matthew) and Marcelle E. Reese; seven grandchildren, Kyle Baine, Jalen Baine, Stephan Ames, Alyssa Reese, Cameron Baine, Marquez Reese and Micah Reese; five siblings, Oscar Cradle, Brenda R. Herrington(William), Early W. Reese(Jan), Mark S. Reese(Connie) and Reginald C. Reese; Aunt, Bessie Mae Callahan; Uncle, Pernell Reese and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

He was baptized at an early age at Mayflower Baptist Church. He was educated in the Lunenburg County Public School System. After high school he graduated from Saint Paul's College where he was a student athlete. He taught in Lunenburg County Public Schools for over 40 years and coached football and basketball for many years. Marvin served as a mentor to many throughout his career. In addition to teaching, he was a devoted farmer, always working from sunup to sundown. He instilled this same work ethic in his children as his dad instilled in him. He valued his family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer words of wisdom and encouragement, never expecting anything in return. His motto was "You do your part and God will do the rest."

When Marvin wasn't working, he enjoyed rabbit hunting with his sons, son-in-law, grandsons and friends. He retired from the school system in 2017 and continued to farm until his health failed.

The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the medical staff in the Memory Care Unit at Heritage Hall, Blackstone VA and other caregivers who provided care for our loved one.
