The funeral service for Marvin "Bud" Simmons, 85, of Jacksonville, will be at 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 17, 2025, in the Chapel of K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory. Pastor Frank Haney will officiate and burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 1:30 until 3:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Simmons passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at his home in Jacksonville.
Bud was born April 27, 1939 in Rock Run, Alabama, and raised in Piedmont, where he graduated from Piedmont High School. He met his bride, Jane, at a basketball game at Roy Webb Jr. High School. The two married on June 21, 1958 and welcomed their son, Jeff, in 1960. Bud dedicated many years of service to Alabama Power before retiring, and he also proudly served in the Army National Guard, from which he also retired. In addition to his careers, Bud worked as an electrician, wiring countless homes throughout the Roy Webb community and surrounding communities.
A true people person, "Uncle Bud" as he liked to be called, never met a stranger and had a gift for making others feel welcome. He had a passion for woodworking and spent many hours in his home workshop. He was a devoted grandfather and a die-hard Alabama football fan. Bud was a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and, in more recent years, attended Asberry Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Rossie Jane Penny Simmons; parents, John Henry and Tempy Mae Simmons; brother, J.B. Simmons; sisters, Nora Holly, Nobie Farmer, Polly Rhinehart, baby sister, Jean Simmons; and grandson, Scott Austin.
He is survived by his son, Jeffery Simmons and his wife Teresa, of Ohatchee; grandson, Ray Austin and his wife Teresa of Jacksonville; granddaughter-in-law, Kristin Austin; great grandchildren, Kaylee and Tyler Austin of Jacksonville and Miranda, Maycee and Wyatt Austin, of Palmyra, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ray Austin, Tyler Austin, Craig Worthy, Austin Worthy, Brody Jennings, Nathan Ballard, and Chris Ballard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Hiram Masonic Lodge #42, Grady Rhinehart and Doug Jennings.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bud's caregivers for their loving support and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the Alabama Baptist Children's Home.
