Mary Ellen Chafin Adams, 89, of Powdersville, South Carolina, wife of the late James E. Adams, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Reese E. and Inez Sellers Chafin. She dedicated over 30 years of her life working for Winn Dixie, where her commitment was admired by many. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always put others first, embodying kindness in every aspect of her life. She had a gentle spirit, having never uttered a curse word or taken a sip of alcohol, which reflected her wholesome character. In her free time, Mary enjoyed doing daily word searches, a hobby that brought her joy and challenged her mind. She loved sitting on her porch, waiving at people as they passed by, creating a warm and welcoming presence in her Powdersville Community. She attended Siloam Baptist Church and was a member of NewSpring Church.
She is survived by her five children, Debbie Ryzak, Eddie Adams (Beverly), Sherrie Vargo (Joe), Barry Adams, and Angie Bryant (Gene); a brother, Jerry D. Chafin; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby Chafin, Joe Chafin, and Billy Chafin; and two sisters, Sue McClain, and Linda Fleming.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM at Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road. The funeral service will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow the service in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
