Mary Alice Wotring, DeDe, 87, passed to her heavenly maker while residing at The Highlands in Wyomissing on Wednesday, October 29. She was the daughter of Frances and John M. Wotring, MD.
A remarkable woman, her first job was with the Voice of America radio program in 1963. She was a musician, administrator for G. D. Searle in Chicago and South Africa, and managing director and office manager for a newly opened office of the H.D Lee Company for Europe in Maidenhead, UK. Later, she served as the international license and contract specialist for VF International.
She enjoyed travelling to visit her dear diplomatic charge d’affairs, Marilyn Meyers, at her posts in South Africa, Australia, Myanmar, Japan and Thailand. DeDe is survived by her sister, Louise Wotring Souders (Thomas B. Souders) and her two sons Britt Smith with his husband, Stein Berre, and Rhett Smith (Maureen O’Brien) who both reside in Manhattan, NYC. She genuinely enjoyed the achievements of her grand niece and nephews, Silas (West Point Military Academy plebe), and Scarlet and Sawyer who are both students at Success Academy, NYC.
The environs of Reading benefited from her volunteer work with the Friends of Chamber Music, the WCR Center for the Arts, and the World Affairs Council. As the daughter of an ophthalmologist, she picked up his love of photography and took prizeworthy photographs of spectacular sights around the world. She also had a great golf swing.
At Mary Alice’s request private arrangements are being made by the Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
Gifts would be accepted by The Friends of Chamber Music, PO Box 15205, Reading, 19612 or the WCR Center for the Arts, 140 N. 5th Street, Reading, 19601.

What kind of arrangement is appropriate, where should you send it, and when should you send an alternative?
