Mary Juree Griffin Erland Anderson was born March 25th, 1936, in Lakeview Oregon, to Lowell and Edith (Peters) Griffin of Lakeview.
She attended Elementary and High School in Lakeview and was a Honker and Oregon Duck fan thru and thru! She and her sister, Nancy, grew up around the family gas and tire station and were active in the Homemakers of America Club at Lakeview High School.
After graduating from Lakeview High, she left home to attend Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon, to pursue a Nursing degree. While attending Good Sam she met a young sailor named Edwin Erland and they were married on May 23rd, 1959.
She graduated Good Sam with her Nursing degree on September 20th, 1959, and over the next 20 years they traveled from duty station to duty station, where she found work as an ER Nurse, an Operating Room Nurse, and Orthopedic nurse.
Mary and Edwin had 2 daughters, Lucinda Roxanne was born in San Diego, California in 1960 and Jodi Nanette was born in Kingsville, Texas in 1963. That union ended; however, they remained proud parents and grandparents.
In 1979, Mary married James Fine Anderson, a Railroad Maintenance Supervisor in Pleasant Hill, California and they became a blended family with 5 children: Rex, Lucinda, Monte, Jodi and Sally. Mary and Fine enjoyed many happy years visiting their children in Californian, New Mexico, Oklahoma, various duty stations and locations all over the world and traveling to Hawaii with Mary's mother Edith and her brother David.
Eventually they returned to Lakeview, to the Family Ranch in Crooked Creek, where they spent many wonderful years hosting friends and family. Mary was a nurse, teacher, camp nurse and mentor to many patients, young nurses and campers for over 65 years. She was a lifelong Lake District Hospital Auxiliary member, in many capacities, and was the Lake County Parrish Nurse well into her 80's. She was the Veterans Advocate for the Elks Lodge, 1536, in Lakeview and was very proud of all her veterans, including brother John, son-in-laws, Rick and Greg and grandson Richard.
Mary is preceded in death by her mother, father, brother David, sister-in-law Cheryl (Griffin), and niece Bridgette. She is survived by her husband, Fine, her sister Nancy (Stewart), her brother John (Karen Griffin), her daughters Lucinda (Rick Pool), Jodi (Greg Campbell), step-children, Rex (Cindy Anderson), Monte (Irene Anderson) and Sally Anderson. Nieces and nephews, Serena (Tom Melesh), Susan (Hedden), Melinda (Griffin), Johnny (Lisa Griffin) and Shannon (George King), as well as, their families; grandchildren Kassandra, Richard, Kaley, Jake (Katie), Meghan (Nathan), Katie (Omeed), James, Carlos, Colton, Sam and great-grandchildren Will, Ben, Michale, Sadie, Theo, Peter, Raymond and Isabel.
Mary was known for her extensive Christmas card list and her amazing care packages. She was a shining example to her children and others of Christian values; the power of love and prayer and the importance of being benevolent.
Mary peacefully went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on December 5th, 2025, in the presence of her daughters Lucinda and Jodi, while a resident at Brookdale in Bend, Oregon. There will be a private burial at IOOF, with a celebration of life on January 4th at 1pm at Lakeview Elks Lodge, 1536, in Lakeview, for all to attend.
