Mary Ann Brown, 95, of Tunkhannock, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, at the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Anthony Brown, who passed in 1998.
Born August 7, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Wisnewski) Kozielski. A graduate of GAR in Wilkes-Barre, she worked as a seamstress for Rowker Manufacturing Co. Inc. in Tunkhannock and Meshoppen Dress Factory, and was a member of ILGWU Local #109.
Mary Ann dedicated much of her life to Nativity BVM Church. In response to God's love through Jesus, she served as a cantor and Eucharistic minister, as well as an active member and past president of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also involved with the Ursuline Association of Mt. St. Joseph's in Kentucky and St. Gabriel's Retreat League.
Affectionately known as "The Hugger," she devoted herself to serving others by sending care packages to college students, mailing countless cards, calling friends and family, and joyfully singing "Happy Birthday" to everyone she knew. Her joyful mission extended to others by crocheting and knitting, especially through the prayer shawl ministry where she was an original member.
She cherished the Christmas season, loved watching Hallmark movies, and ended all of her visits and conversations with her signature farewell, "God bless."
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Kozielski; and daughter-in-law, Pat Furneaux Brown.
She is survived by her children, Paul Brown (Cindy), Judith Mowry (Scott), Dave Brown (Sheileen), Frank Brown, Maryanne Pasternak (Jack), William Brown (Patty), Charles Brown (Susan), and Charlotte Luebehusen (Greg); 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Roseann Kozielski; and nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, celebrated by the Rev. Patrick Albert and Deacon Ray Pieretti. Interment will follow in Pieta Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to service time. Those who received a prayer shawl from Mary Ann are invited to wear it in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to EWTN, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210, or Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
