Mary Ann Odoms-Ross Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Mary Lydia Ann Odoms-Ross, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on November 30, 1945, in Allendale, South Carolina, she was the second eldest of six children and the cherished daughter of Richard Boynton and Shelly Carter.
Affectionately known to many as "Miss Mary" and lovingly called "Aunt Sster" by family and close friends, Mary was a woman whose presence brought comfort, strength, and joy to all who knew her.
She married Willie Odoms, Sr., and from their union came her greatest joy-her only son, Willie Odoms, Jr. Mary devoted her life to caring for others, both in her personal life and in her work. She was employed at the Stockley Center for Disabilities, where she compassionately served until her retirement. She later married Isiah Ross, where they shared their love and devotion for over 40 years.
Mary was deeply rooted in her community and her church family. She had a heart for the less fortunate, a calling to be a mother figure to many young people, and a kitchen always open to anyone in need of a warm meal. Her love of cooking was only matched by her love of singing, especially with the Sussex Community Gospel Choir, where her beautiful voice and deep faith uplifted so many. One of her favorite sayings was, "Thank God for the blessing," a reflection of her enduring faith and gratitude.
Mary will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her quiet grace, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. Though she has left this earthly life, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isiah Ross; her mother, Shelly Carter; her sisters, Richadine Cohen, and Bernadette Foster; her brothers, James Carter, Richard Boynton, and Charles Edward; and her beloved niece, Toby Cooper.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted son, Willie Odoms, Jr. (Cassandra); grandson, TJ Odoms (Lauren), and Malachi Jones; and two precious great-grandchildren, Julian and Ezekiel. She is also lovingly remembered by her niece, Shelldean Cohen; her dearest friend, Eula Mae Payton; and a host of extended family members, church family, and friends.
