Mary Elizabeth Barrett

Mary Elizabeth (Fling) Barrett, 90, of West Brandywine, PA, passed on to heaven, peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 4, 2025 in the skilled nursing Inn of Freedom Village.
Born and raised in Columbus, OH, Mary was the daughter of the late Russell and Margaret (Throp) Fling. She met her husband of 57 years, the late John H. Barrett, at Ohio State University where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Lifelong Buckeyes, John and Mary participated in alumni groups, football watch parties, and attended games near and far. She loved attending concerts and shows with her husband. They enjoyed travel to every state and many countries, often travelling with or visiting family and friends. Mary was a dental hygienist, but her primary roll became as a homemaker. As they moved due to John's career and their love of the beach, Mary's motto "Make New Friends but Keep the Old" was always on display. She participated in church groups, women's clubs, gourmet clubs, and volunteered. She loved gardens, reading, needlework, floral arranging, bridge, shopping and any time spent with girlfriends. She adored her cats and teddy bear collection, but her biggest love was spending time with family.
Mary is survived by her children: J. Jeffrey Barrett (Betsy) and Elizabeth (Bill) and her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her siblings: Margaret Goodwin and Russell Fling (Dona).
Mary will be laid to rest with her husband in a Chapel Garden in Naples, FL. A Family Celebration of Life will be held at Longwood Gardens.
