CARLINVILLE - Mary Jane ("MJ") Bates, 78, of Carlinville, passed away on Saturday evening, Dec. 27, 2025, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Mary Jane was born May 5, 1947, in Herrin, a daughter of Don and Bertha (Barnes) Moake. MJ graduated from Johnston City High School in 1965.
Mary Jane was an office manager for WMEC/WQEC/WSEC at PBS. She proudly worked there for over 35 years until she retired. MJ made many lifelong friends at work. She enjoyed reading fiction books, watching game shows and NFL football, traveling, baking, and cooking for her family. She especially enjoyed Christmas and collecting different Santas. Mary Jane loved to spend time with her kids, grandkids, and grandpups.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry Moake; and two sisters-in-law, Sue Moake and Betty Moake.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville.
A Celebration of Life will be held after the visitation at Reno's Pizza.
Mary Jane is survived by her son, Jeff Bates of Godfrey; daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Rodgers of Carlinville; son, Doug (Katie) Bates of Chatham; three granddaughters, Mikayla Rodgers, Bailey Rodgers and Savannah Kirchner; brother, Bill Moake of Carlinville; two sisters-in-law, Jan Bates and Evelyn Hutten; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Carlinville Public Library or Carlinville Christmas Shopping Spree.
