It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Lou Bennett, age 85, of Perry, Florida, who went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 25, 2025. Her life was one of faith, generosity, and genealogy that touched countless hearts.

Mary Lou was born on August 23, 1940, at Nutall Rise on the Aucilla River in Taylor County, to parents Joe Cephus and Eva Mae Padgett Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Kenneth (Kenny) Bennett; her parents, Joe Cephus and Eva Mae Lewis; and her siblings Donald Lewis, and Louise (RV) Hunter.

She is survived by her brothers, Jack (Erma) Lewis, Billy Lewis, sister-in-law Nancy Lewis, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who adored her.

After graduating from Taylor County High School in 1959, Mary Lou moved to Jacksonville Florida where she began her career in the banking industry. She later returned to Perry where she held a long career at Florida National Bank until her retirement.

In 1969, Mary Lou married the love of her life, Kenneth (Kenny) Bennett, with whom she shared 31 wonderful years of marriage. Kenny and Mary Lou loved to spend their time vacationing at their cozy cottage on the Aucilla River.

A woman of faith, Mary Lou was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Perry. Her commitment to her relationship with Jesus was evident to all those who knew her.

Mary Lou was known for her quick wit, warm smile, and generous spirit. She enjoyed traveling to research her family genealogy and documenting the history of the Aucilla River in Taylor County.

A celebration of Mary Lou's life will be held via graveside services on Friday, December 5, at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakland Church Cemetery, Cabbage Grove, Taylor County Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Big Bend Hospice of Taylor County.

Mary Lou will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her spirit, her laughter, and her unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of her family and friends whose lives she touched.
