Mary "Ginny" Bonenberger, 85, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Linda E. White Hospice. She was born August 2, 1940 in Evansville to the late Marcella (Vaal) and Herman Freihaut.
Ginny graduated from Memorial High School in 1958 and St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1961. She worked as a registered nurse for many years before she retired. Ginny was a life-long member of St. Benedict Cathedral and active in many of the church ministries. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bruce Bonenberger; sons David (Laurel) Bonenberger of Evansville and Brett (Jill) Bonenberger of Fishers, IN; daughter, Mary (Kenny) Morand of Cincinnati, OH; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Nelda (Bob) Schafer and Dorothy Freihaut; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara Jean Freihaut and Carol Klein.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2025 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. Nursing Honor Guard service at 6:45 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025 at St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Father Tyler Underhill officiating.
Entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
