Mary Ellan Breckenridge, 92, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, January 23, 2026, in her hometown of Paragould, Arkansas. Born on September 21, 1933, she was renowned not only for her remarkable talents but also for the profound love she shared with her family and friends.
Mary was a gifted seamstress, capable of transforming fabrics into cherished garments ranging from delicate baby clothes to stunning wedding dresses and formal suits. Her creativity knew no bounds, as she dedicated her skills to creating treasured family mementos that will be cherished for generations to come.
In addition to her crafting expertise, Mary had a profound passion for flower gardening, where she found joy. Her gardens bloomed with vibrant colors, mirroring her vibrant spirit and nurturing personality. As a devoted member of New Friendship Baptist Church, she offered her time and talents to enrich the lives of those around her.
Mary leaves behind her beloved husband of 73 years, JR Breckenridge, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories. She is also survived by her son, Danny Breckenridge (Debra), her daughters, Patty Matheney and Judy Richardson (Rondal), along with her brothers, Thomas Bailey and Freddie Bailey. The family tree she nurtured continues to flourish, encompassing six grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Eunice Bailey, her sister, Joann Wicker, and her great-grandson, Jackson Matheney. Their memories will forever be honored in the hearts of those who loved her.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 31, from 10:30 a.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin 11:00 a.m. with Ron Blankenship officiating. Burial will be private.
