Mary Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Honaker Funeral Home on Jan. 13, 2026.
Mary Frances Hagy Brown, age 90, went home to Jesus on Tuesday morning (January 13, 2026) at Commonwealth Senior Living in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Born February 20, 1935 on House and Barn Mountain in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Andy Mark and Lucy Marshall Hagy. Throughout her life Mary was a devoted caretaker, dedicating herself to the care of others, especially to her late husband, Tivis and her son, Mark, whom she loved deeply. Her work was not simply a job, but a calling and commitment to making those around her feel safe and cared for. Her hobbies included playing the guitar and singing. She would often tell stories of having a living room full of family and friends with instruments and everyone would enjoy singing for hours. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her family and friends always looked forward to the holiday season when they would receive her homemade applesauce cakes and candies. She loved gardening and canning was one of her specialties; a true labor of love. She enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with everyone around her. Her life was a testament to service, love and a legacy that will live on.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over seventy years, Tivis Perry Brown and siblings, Dorothy Hagy Hicks, Ruby Yaunts, Bonnie Hagy, Judith Hagy, Graham Hagy, J.P. Hagy, Andrew Hagy, Bobby Hagy, Guy Hagy and John Henry Hagy.

Survivors include one son, Mark Perry Brown and wife, Becky; one granddaughter, Tayler; two great-grandchildren, Sadie and Shade; one brother, Cecil Hagy and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caretakers at Commonwealth Assisted Living for the wonderful care they provided.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Cantrell officiating.

Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.

Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends after 6 PM Thursday at Honaker Funeral Home.
