MARY JANE BROWN, 95, of Peterson, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026 at her home in Peterson, Iowa surrounded by family.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Peterson, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Peterson, Iowa. Burial will be held in the Oakland Cemetery at Peterson, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Mary was born on June 19, 1930 to Herbert and Buelah (Martin) Mason at her home in Sutherland, Iowa. She attended Calumet and Sutherland Schools graduating in 1948. She was united in marriage on October 10, 1951 to James “Jim” Lee Brown.
After high school graduation she worked in Marathon candling eggs, then in Sutherland at the Creamery and began working at the U.S. Post Office in the 60’s until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson, Iowa. She was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship, a 74 year member of the Peterson Legion Auxiliary, and a past Sioux Valley school board member.
In her free time she loved to sew, bake, play cards, entertaining people that came over and most of all spending time with family and attending her kids and grandkids’ sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, son Scott, brother Dale Mason, brother-in-law Wayne Brown, sisters-in-law Patricia Mason, Shirley Mason, and Jayne Brown, and stepfather Bill Salmen.
Mary is survived by her children Mike (Karen) Brown of Sutherland, Iowa, daughter-in-law Deb Brown of Peterson, Iowa, Alice (Mick) Wetherell of Cleghorn, Iowa, Bob (Tammy) Brown of Peterson, Iowa, Dan (Nicki) Brown of San Jose, California; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and 3 on the way; sister Bette Mason; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
