OPELOUSAS- A Funeral Service will be held for Mary Budd on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Jerome Collins will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Mary Medora Budd, beloved teacher, devoted friend, and cherished community member, peacefully passed away on September 2, 2024, at her residence in Opelousas, Louisiana, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on January 12, 1944, in Opelousas, Mary lived a life filled with purpose, kindness and unwavering dedication to those she touched.
For 33 years, Mary shaped the minds and hearts of her students as a teacher at Leonville Elementary. Her passion for education was evident in her gentle approach and her willingness to go the extra mile for her students. Beyond her role as an educator, Mary was known for her deep faith and active involvement in her community. She was a proud and dedicated member of the Catholic Daughters for over 33 years, where she not only contributed her time and talents but also received numerous pins recognizing her milestones and heartfelt accomplishments. Her spiritual devotion guided her in spreading compassion and support, making her a pillar of strength for many.
Mary was an avid traveler, always eager to explore new places. Whether embarking on a new adventure or cozying up at home, she found joy in solving intricate puzzles and immersing herself in captivating mystery novels or browsing through her treasured cookbooks. Mary will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
Mary is survived by her brothers, Foster Budd III and wife Phyllis of Opelousas, John M. Budd of Columbia, MI; nieces, Sue Budd Hatchett and husband William, Sharon Budd Gorman and husband Luke; great-nephew, Sam Hatchett; and great-niece, Lindsey Gorman.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Foster Budd, Jr. and Mildred Veillon Budd.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. The Catholic Daughters will conduct a prayer ceremony at 5:45p.m. and the rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. by Deacon Jerome Collins. Visitation will continue Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
As we remember Mary Medora Budd, we honor her legacy, grateful for the time we had with her and the countless lives she enriched through her dedication to teaching, her faith, and her unconditional love for family and friends.
